the mastery of seeing

October 2023, Amsterdam

Yet!
In a skylark’s view:
We from time to time,
are not aware of our blunt perception.
Either you want to inhale the rain,
or caress the sun,
you cannot run heaven’s course.

A child might think:
when the curtain of sky is drawn,
behind the gloomy clouds,
sun might sharpen its rays.

wait!
Your patience will pay off,
As the plantations make no hasty way,
Rain fulfils its duty whenever Nature summons.
Only man in this respect is
In a rebellious state:
Kicking against the wind,
Cursing the exuberance of rain and,
Punching his own face,
Boasting, bloating?
He cannot even subdue his smell and sweat,
The loitering wind will hit back your spit,
Wind is deaf to your dispute,
Rain is blind to your prejudice

You’d better leave your house and go to that roaming desert,
Meeting a god waiting for you,
Who has no doctrine to teach,
There, even timelessness and emptiness follow him,
He does not try to tame a lion,
Nor holding a wand,
A bright smile!
You’ll apprentice to learning,
The mastery of seeing,
Your final exam will be
Walking blindfolded on a hair-bridge,
Over a ravenous abyss.
If you pass,
Stars will grow and glow in your eyes,
But first you should be
Stripped of your spectacles …
